Arts and Culture

We have an active component of enthusiastic learners and teachers taking part in a wide variety of disciplines, ranging from choral singing to drama. Expertise is acquired, if necessary, in the presentation of these activities. Learners take part in a variety of concerts and competitions on a local, national and international level.

Drama
Drama is an exciting and diverse set of activities which offers the learner opportunities and experience in a variety of dramatic activities.

The Interhouse plays (where the various houses compete) provide the learners with a platform where they can experiment with the writing of their own original scripts. They may then produce and direct these contemporary pieces. This gives them a hands-on experience of the real world of theatre. An additional bonus is the fact that it is performed at an Interhouse play competition which is enthusiastically and fiercely competitive. The plays are adjudicated by well-known personalities in the drama field.

The Drama Club also allows learners to be directed by professionals in the field of drama. They are then given the opportunity to compete against other schools in the drama world for top honours in a variety of competitions - Montaque, ATKV, Klein Libertas etc. This experience gives potential actors a taste of other genres, methods and means that the theatre world provides.

We are privileged to have the services of Mrs Petro van den Heever at our disposal. They are both qualified drama teachers who participate on a regular basis in plays at the KKNK.

Eisteddfods
Learners from our school participate (during the third term) in a variety of eisteddfods e.g. the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Eisteddfods. Our entries are usually in the areas of music, drama and poetry.

Res Novae
"Res Novae" is the name of Stellenberg High School's newspaper. The name is derived from Latin and literally means "New Business". The newspaper is planned by the editorial staff under the leadership of the editor, Amy Strydom.

UCSA ("CROSS")
The Cross is a Christian organisation for all denominations. We have cell and worship meetings on a weekly basis. We also organise social events which are open to the whole school. Outreaches take place twice-weekly and we also organise assemblies and evangelical activities.
