Stellenberg recently re-entered the Rotary League of the Western Cape Schools Debating Board’s competition, which forms part of a nationwide competition. Competitions take place regionally and the winners compete on provincial and national level.
Individual speakers can also be selected for provincial and/ or national teams.
More than 40 schools in our region participate each year. Each school can enter two teams – one junior and one senior team of five speakers each. The junior team can consist of speakers from grades 8 – 10, while the senior team can consist of speakers from grades 8 – 12.
Competitive debates take place fortnightly, while weekly, after-school workshops will be held in preparation for these debates. Learners who do not want to debate competitively, can do so informally during these workshops.
This competition allows learners to research and debate a variety of issues that are relevant in our country and the world.
Learners get to sharpen essential skills like critical thinking; public speaking; forming, defending and challenging arguments; teamwork and much more.
If you have a voice, make it heard. Debate.
